The Learning Club  provides several programs offering positive, pivotal education experience for the children in Kansas City who need it most, including after-school tutoring & mentorship, in-school reading intervention, middle school groups, internships, and summer programs. 

Volunteer Opportunities

In-School Reading Programs: Dedicate just 1.5 hours a week to reading intervention with K-5th grade students, helping them build their confidence and improve literacy skills.

After-School Programs: Commit one hour per week to mentor a student through homework help, reading, and connection. Make a lasting difference by helping a student thrive. (MOST NEEDED! Tuesdays after school)

Mission Adelante is a faith-based organization in KCK serving new Americans and refugees.

They offer Latino ESL classes and are in need of volunteers. Classes meet on Thursday evenings. Must be willing to make 12-week volunteer commitment; their approach is relationship-based, and success depends on consistency.  

Mission Adelante also needs weekly volunteers to help with their citizenship program on Tuesday nights, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Project Eagle, part of the University of Kansas Medical Center, has provided early childhood education services to pregnant women and young children ages 0-5 in Wyandotte County since 1989. Our four distinct programs serve our participants and families annually, accounting for almost 1,000 children and their families: Connections, Family Resource Center, Early Head Start Home Visiting, and Educare Kansas City (Early Head Start and Head Start Center-Based services).

Volunteer: Jackson County CASA, long term volunteers

Jackson County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is looking for long term (18-24 months) volunteers. CASA Volunteers advocate for the best interests of children who are in the Jackson County Family Court system until they have a safe and permanent home. A CASA Volunteer provides the judge with carefully researched information about the child to help the court make a sound decision about that child’s future. The CASA Volunteer helps determine if it’s in a child’s best interest to be returned to the parents or guardians, be placed in foster care, be placed with relatives, or be freed for permanent adoption.

Responsibilities include reviewing records, researching the child’s situation, regularly visiting the child wherever he/she is living, attending meetings concerning the child and family, writing recommendations to the judge before each court meeting, and working with the CASA staff attorney who represents the child in all legal proceedings, and reporting to the CASA staff case supervisor.

CASA is looking for volunteers from all backgrounds.
