Who We Are

Formerly known as Student Community Providers (SCP), KU Community Health Alliance's mission is to listen, learn, and lead. We strive to listen to our local community members so that we may learn of big and small ways that we, as KUMC students, can serve and help lead our community to a more healthy and equitable future. Our goal is to make volunteer opportunities more accessible to KUMC students and to promote student engagement within the community.

What We Do

KU Community Health Alliance was formerly founded in 2021 as Student Community Providers by students who want to help uplift community voices that are already working to build up their neighbors and improve their access to life-changing resources. Our goal is to listen to the needs that we can best address as students and learn directly from people who grew up in our community on how we can best help. Throughout this past year, we have been able to host monthly food distribution events as well as place two new community fridges in the region focused on combating rising food insecurity. We have also worked to connect with several local initiatives focused on improving access to climate health, maternal health, transportation, and youth mentoring. The pandemic has highlighted glaring unmet needs in our community and we believe it is the responsibility of medical students to use their privilege and education to connect with the people we wish to serve as future providers.

In Summer of 2022, we decided to change our branding based on conversations regarding the message that our previous name entailed and what we truly wanted our organization to embody.
